I'm a luxury wedding photographer based out of South Bend. I believe in always having a vase full of fresh flowers, especially during peony season. That ending a long day should always be on the patio, with a good book and a glass of rosé. And, going to the beach is always a good idea.

South Haven, Michigan Engagement Photographers | June 2, 2013

Remember this couple? Aren’t they the cutest couple you’ve ever seen? I had so much fun with them during their winter engagement session and had that much more fun with them during this personal project of mine. My parents have had this sail boat since 2006 (?) and I have always wanted to do a session with it and South Haven ever since. They didn’t put the boat in the water for a few years and so when they did, it was the first time that Chris and I had the chance to take the kids up there and become boat people. Last year, we spent a lot of time in South Haven, including spending an entire weekend there about a year ago. Our favorite thing to do while up there was to take the dingy out and strut along the canal and see some of these little hidden areas. That was when I decided, there are so many untapped areas up here that are SCREAMING “PHOTO SHOOT!!!”

South Haven has become a personal place for Chris & I, not just because my parents have a boat up there but because it just feels like a place that we could raise our family. Maybe one day we will, but until then, you can expect me to be doing personal projects up there a lot in the next year.

When I put the casting call out for the personal project, I was really excited with Leigh messaged me because I think she and Nathan were perfect for this project and they are already secretly my muse. I knew I wanted to do film and digital.

Today, I will only post the film (I think there is only 1 digital as the film was a vertical and needed a supporting image). I really challenged myself to make each shot I took different from the next.. I am showing you every frame that I took, except for 1 where Leigh’s eyes were closed and it didn’t look like she was just laughing like the one I am posting where her eyes are closed (I promise there is a reason behind my madness).
