University of Notre Dame Engagement Session : Heather & Mick

They initially met the beginning of their freshman year at Notre Dame through mutual dorm friends. However, their story really starts on Veterans Day of their freshman year (November 2007). Mick was standing at attention in his uniform while “guarding” the Clarke Memorial Fountain on campus. Heather was riding her bike to the LaFortune student center but got distracted by a super handsome guy guarding the fountain! Under Heather’s (incorrect) assumption that standing at attention and staring straight ahead meant that Mick couldn’t see her, she rode her bike around the little fountain three times in order to get a better look at him! Mick, of course, noticed the girl in a dress riding her bike around the fountain. And he thought she was pretty cute too! The rest is history!

Mick flew back to the US from Okinawa for a week vacation in February 2015, and they spent the last weekend at Notre Dame! During the day, they walked around campus and the lakes and reminisced about their time at ND. In the evening, they had a romantic dinner at Sorin’s at the Morris Inn followed by another walk around campus to all of their favorite locations. Their walk ended at the War Memorial. There were lanterns and flowers set out in front of the War Memorial. They walked over to look at them and that’s when Mick proposed!! While walking back to the sidewalk, both of their families ran out of the bushes to congratulate them!!! Unbeknownst to Heather, Mick has coordinated getting both families to South Bend to be there for the proposal and celebrate! It was the perfect weekend! And tomorrow, they are getting married!
